About Walthamstow and Leyton
Born in Walthamstow during the late 1950's, I've witnessed countless transformations in our neighbourhood. The gentrification process, although controversial to some, has revitalised the area positively. It is heartening to see the Victorian and Edwardian houses that define our community being restored to their former glory.Over the last decade, Walthamstow and Leyton have become increasingly sought-after locations. They boast a wealth of characterful houses alongside the popular Warner flats and maisonettes near Lloyd park, Blackhorse Road, and Lea Bridge Road. In Leyton, the Abrahams maisonettes near Francis Road echo the Warner Style and en joy similar popularity.Walthamstow Village, with its authentic village vibe, is particularly coveted. It boasts an excellent array of pubs, bars and restaurants, along with attractions like 'Gods Own Junkyard'. The Blackhorse Road area has seen significant developments, including Blackhorse Workshops, micro-breweries and social spots, all just a stone's throw from the Walthamstow Wetlands.Leyton offers superb transport links, including the Leyton Central Line and Leyton Midland stations, enhancing its appeal. The area around Francis Road, known as Leyton Village, mirrors the charm of Walthamstow Village with its fine dining options. Leyton is also near the Lea Valley Ice Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and Westfields Shopping Centre. Both area boast excellent transport and road links, including proximity to the A406, M11 , A12 as well as dedicated cycle routes and having easy access to Epping Forest, making it attractive to both residents and visitors. If you're unfamiliar with Walthamstow or Leyton, I encourage you to explore these vibrant communities. You're sure to enjoy what you find here.Gary R. Clarke, FNAEA Branch Manager
